There are two ways to register โ using a Sign-In Partner (your bank) or creating a CRA user ID directly.
If you bank with one of the major Canadian banks, this is the easiest option. You use your existing online banking login โ no new password to create.
Visit canada.ca and search "CRA My Account" or go directly to the CRA sign-in page.
Select your bank from the list of Sign-In Partners.
Use the same username and password you use for online banking.
CRA will ask for your SIN and date of birth to link your bank login to your CRA account.
Your CRA My Account is now active. You can access it anytime using your bank login.
If you prefer not to use your bank login, you can create a dedicated CRA account.
Select "CRA login" and click "Register."
CRA verifies your identity against your last tax return.
Choose a secure password. Store it somewhere safe.
CRA mails a security code to your address on file. This takes 5โ10 business days.
Until you enter the code, your access is limited. Once entered, full access is unlocked.
The CRA user ID option requires waiting for a security code by mail (5โ10 days). The Sign-In Partner option through your bank gives you immediate full access. If you have online banking, use Option 1.
CRA never sends unsolicited emails or texts with links to sign in to My Account. If you receive such a message, it is a phishing scam. Always go directly to canada.ca to access CRA My Account. Never click links in emails claiming to be from CRA.
CRA My Account is for individuals โ personal tax returns, RRSP, TFSA, benefits, and personal tax slips.
My Business Account is a separate portal for business owners โ GST/HST filing, payroll, corporate tax (T2), and business registrations. If you are self-employed or own a corporation, you may need both accounts.
